So I finally got the master bedroom painted and the barn board I ripped up from the loft of the barn to make the floors (hand) sanded and treated with Osmo Polyx Oil from FW Horch.
Love love love the oil. It’s a nice matte finish that goes well with the irregularities of the old wood. I applied it with a cheap brush and then rubbed it in with an old t-shirt. I’m so pleased to almost have a bedroom!
Absolutely beautiful floors. I’m presently “considering” taking out very old floors from a farmhouse. Would like any information that you can provide to me about how you did yours. Also, did you plane the floors before you finished them in oil? Did you consider using verethane on them?

It was actually a very simple process. They came from the loft of the bar, and I just pryed them up with a pry bar and hammer. Then laid them down with shims in a few places and nailed them in. In the beginning we ran the first few pieces along the sides of the table saw to try and have them lay snug, but gave up on that pretty quickly because it became futile fairly quickly. I really wanted to keep the imperfections, since they are almost 200 years old, which is why I sanded them with a palm sander and 80 then 120 sand paper. The oil is super, it gives them a nice layer of protection, enhances the grain, and isn’t “glossy”. I didn’t look into verethane. I did a bunch of research on lo voc finishes, and really liked what I read about Osmo and then did a test on a door and really loved the look. I just finished doing some pine floors with it last night – I’ll post those pictures soon. Feel free to e-mail if you have anymore questions!
